Verify before you rely

Our conversion factors come from published standards and are automatically tested, but software can contain errors, a unit can be ambiguous, and you may select a unit you did not intend. You are responsible for checking any result before acting on it.

Take particular care where:

• A unit name is shared across systems. A US gallon is not a UK gallon. A US fluid ounce is not a UK fluid ounce. A short ton is not a long ton or a tonne.
• A scale has an offset. Temperature conversions are not simple multiplication, and converting a temperature difference is a different operation from converting a temperature reading.
• A relationship is inverse. Halving litres per 100 km does not halve miles per gallon.
• Precision matters. Results are rounded for readability.

Currency rates

Exchange rates are supplied by a third party and are mid-market reference rates. They may be delayed, and they are not the rate a bank or bureau will give you. If the live rate service is unavailable, the page falls back to a small bundled rate table and will clearly tell you the figures are not live.
